About the programme

Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in developed countries. In the Czech Republic, 7,700 new cases of this disease are diagnosed each year and approximately 1,700 women die from it annually.

Every woman aged 45 years and over is in the target population for mammography screening and is entitled to preventive mammography covered by public health insurance. This examination can be carried out once every two years. The screening request form is issued by a general practitioner or a registering gynaecologist.

Mammography screening is carried out at specialised accredited centres throughout the Czech Republic. The choice of a particular centre is entirely up to you - a map and a list of screening mammography centres can help you. Appointments can be made in person, by phone or, in some cases, electronically. It is recommended to book 1-2 months in advance.

Breast cancer can be symptom-free for several years. Therefore, it is important not to underestimate prevention and to take advantage of the possibility of early detection of the disease. Early diagnosis significantly increases the chances of successful treatment and complete recovery.
